About Festival Eritrea
Celebrating the vibrant culture, rich history, and proud heritage of Eritrea.
Festival Eritrea is an annual cultural celebration that showcases the resilience, diversity, and heritage of the Eritrean people. First held in 1974, Festival Eritrea emerged as a way to preserve national identity and unite Eritreans both at home and abroad during a pivotal time in the nation's history. What began as a modest cultural gathering has since grown into a global tradition.
The Festival serves as a living showcase of Eritrean culture, featuring traditional music, dance, fashion, cuisine, art exhibitions, and forums on history and development. It offers Eritreans of all generations — especially those in the Diaspora — a meaningful connection to their roots, while also welcoming friends and allies from other communities to learn and celebrate alongside them.

About Eritrea
Eritrea is a country of deep history, cultural richness, and resilient spirit — located in the Horn of Africa along the Red Sea. Its diverse landscapes, from highland plateaus to coastal deserts, are matched by the diversity of its people, with nine ethnic groups each bringing their own language, traditions, and customs to the national identity.
Eritrea’s journey to independence in 1991 is a powerful story of unity, perseverance, and national pride. That same spirit lives on today through cultural expressions that connect Eritreans across generations and continents.
Festival Eritrea was born from that spirit, a celebration that brings our heritage to life. Through music, dance, food, art, and storytelling, the festival serves as a vibrant reminder of who we are and where we come from.
To understand Festival Eritrea is to understand Eritrea itself — proud, diverse, and full of life.
